However, you can still expect some afternoon rain showers. Sea temperatures remain above 23°C (73°F).
January is the hottest month in Port Louis with an average temperature of 26°C (79°F). July is the coldest month at 20°C (68°F) with the most hours of sunshine hours in November. The wettest month is March.
The west coast receives less rainfall then the south and southeast coasts: Port Louis, receives the least rain of anywhere else on the island, and the popular resorts of Trou aux Biches, Flic-en-Flac and Grand Baie see less rain than Ile aux Cerfs, which is located on the eastern side of the island.
Winter sees the east and south coasts of Mauritius receive strong south-easterly winds, with late July and early August providing the strongest gusts. Resorts located in the west and northwest of Mauritius generally escape these winds as they are protected by the central mountain range.
For rain-free sunny days head to the beaches of the west and north coasts such as Grande Baie, Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy and Flic-en Flac. The south and east coasts receive sunny days interspersed by brief rain showers.
Summer, from December to April, is hot, humid and wet, with an average temperature on the coast that ranges from a night time low of 20°C to a day time high of 33°C (68°F to 91°F).
Rain showers are interspersed with plenty of sunshine – up to seven hours a day. Typically, rain falls in the afternoon and can be very localised. Sea breezes keep the high temperatures from become oppressive and water temperatures hover around 28°C (82°F).
Cyclones between January and March typically last for a day or two.
The mountain plateau is around 5°C cooler and it can rain here at any time of year.
