Langkawi weather – Best time to visit Langkawi
The best time to visit Langkawi is between mid-November and March, although anytime is good to visit this beautiful tropical island.
Langkawi is blessed with a sunny, hot and humid climate with an average high of 33°C (90°F) and a low of 23°C (73°F) throughout the year.
The island enjoys two distinct seasons: the dry season from mid-November to March and the wet season from April to October.
However, even in the rainy season you can expect hot sunny days, with brief tropical downpours during the late afternoon and evening, which help to cool things down. Langkawi receives the most rainfall during September and October.
Located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the Malacca Straits and sheltered by mainland mountains, Langkawi generally escapes the worst of the wet northeast winter monsoon that lashes the mainland from November through to January.
Malaysia’s peak seasons follow school and public holidays.
High season: High season lasts from early-December to the end of January, including the major holidays of Christmas, New Year's Day and Chinese New Year; from June to mid-September, as this coincides with school holidays in the Middle-East; and from mid-May through to the end of June, and again during November and December, which coincides with Singapore's school holidays.
In addition, Malaysia's school holidays occur for two weeks during March, May and August, with a longer break from mid-November through December.
Hari Raya Puasa, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, is held in September, with dates changing from year to year.
Low season: September to mid-November.
