About Capri

Consider a beach holiday or romantic getaway to the Isle of Capri: Italy’s most famous island – the haunt of movie stars, literati and everyone famous since the Roman Emperor Tiberius first established his home here in the 1st century AD.

Set in a deep blue sea just off the Sorrentine Peninsula, Capri boasts a rugged mountain surrounded by picture-perfect coves, jagged cliffs, underwater grottos and dramatic swimming sites for the perfect holiday destination.

Things to do and see

With its exclusive ambiance, chic boutiques, fine dining restaurants and good choice of accommodation to suit all budgets, Capri offers all the ingredients you need for a great island honeymoon in Italy.

Explore the winding, hilly alleyways and narrow stone-paved streets of Capri town, crowded with fashionable clothing and jewellery boutiques, handicraft shops, galleries, nightclubs and hotels. Relax at a sidewalk cafe, bar or restaurant on the famous Piazzetta – the place to see and be seen.

Visit the 14th century Palazzo Cerio, the finest medieval building still standing on the island, and wander around the Certosa di San Giacomo, a religious charterhouse that includes a church, cloisters and gardens with panoramic views.

Alternatively, the nearby terraced public gardens of Giardini di Augusto offer some of the most scenic views in Capri.

Away from the jet-set glamour of Capri town, stroll a network of scenic walking trails that climb past lemon trees, whitewashed homes and gorgeous pastel-shaded villas to cactus-covered cliff tops with views over the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. Ride the chairlift from the idyllic mountain village of Anacapri to the summit of Mount Solaro (594m) and explore the 14th century sanctuary of Santa Maria a Cetrella, offering panoramic views over Marina Piccola and Capri.

Hike to Faraglione di Terra, one of three limestone colossi that soar 100m out of the sea just off the Punta Tragara on the southern coast of Capri. Swim from the secluded beach at the base of Faraglione di Terra or cruise to picturesque offshore islands where you can glide through the tunnel of Faraglione di Mezzo.

Don’t miss exploring the spectacular underwater cavern at the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) by rowboat.

Accommodation
Capri offers a good choice of accommodation including the luxurious 5-star Grand Hotel Quisisana in Capri town, the 4-star Relais Maresca, which overlooks the beach and cliffs of Marina Grande on the north coast, and the 4-star Villa Brunella, which sits above the legendary Faraglioni Rocks.

By hydrofoil, Capri is just minutes away from Positano, Amalfi, Salerno and the neighbouring island of Ischia.

Best time to visit Capri?
The best time for an Isle of Capri honeymoon is . . . any time. May, June and September offer cooler temperatures and sunny cloudless days. July and August are much more crowded and temperatures climb to 30°C. For more climate info: Capri Weather Guide
